On the 9th June 1945 the York Society of Magicians was founded by the Right Honourable The Lord Mayor of York Mr. H.. C.. deBurgh. Over the years the society has arranged many events, both for the society members, the people of York and the many visitors to our city.

On the 3rd November 1951 the first ever ‘Night of Magic’ was staged at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre in York. Featuring both local and regional acts. The event was a sell out and received rave reviews in the Worlds Fair.

The Nights of Magic continued until 1984. However, special events have since been staged like the 1995 Magic Convention and Halloween Magic in Kirkgate plus many others including shows to help raise funds for local organisations and charities.

Over the last decade, the performance of magic has become even more dynamic and exciting and so it is the intention of the York Society of Magicians re-invent and relaunch these historic events for the City of York with a new fresh image as the ‘York Festival of Magic’ with multiple events to take place at various locations around the city. These events may include performances of Close-up Magic in bars and restaurants, Theatre Magic Production, Children’s Magic Shows, Junior Magicians Show, Wizards Summer School, Lectures, Street Entertainers and allied entertainments.

We are currently looking for festival partners who would like to be involved in this exciting event in the form of Venues, Sponsors, Entertainers or anyone else who would like to be involved in some way.
